The Atkins Diet started with Dr. Robert Atkins all the way back in 1972. The Atkins Diet has been around since that long and is still going strong today. The corner stone of the Atkins Diet is low carb food.
The company that ran the Atkins diet actually went into bankruptcy in 2005 but re-emerged in January 2006 to an outpouring of people looking to loose weight. The Atkins Diet is extremely different than many other dieting techniques. Dr. Atkins believed there was a flaw with the way that most Western cultures ate. He saw that we ate mostly refined carbohydrates. The Atkins Diet stresses to eat as few of these refined carbohydrates as possible. If you eat fewer refined carbohydrates you then have a better blood glucose reaction which will burn more of your stored body fat.
Did that make any sense to you? Well, fear not! All you have to do is try not to eat a lot of carbohydrates because this will help you body burn more blood sugar! Dr. Atkins claims that doing this will make your body have a metabolic advantage where it will actually burn the stored fat and use up more calories. Then you would start to loose weight. One benefit of the Atkins Diet is that it does tend to delay the onset of hunger. This is because fat and protein takes longer to digest than carbohydrates which provide a quick energy boost.
The induction phase where you first begin the Atkins Diet is usually where you see five to ten pounds a week of weight loss. It is extremely restrictive on what you can eat. If you are looking for a diet that will help you loose an amazing amount of weight, the Atkins Diet should be at the top of your list. While it is restrictive, it can do amazing things for you and your body.
